Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Tulsa

Logan Cunningham

1993 at the age of 12 - Started training Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai

1994 at 13 - Had my first Muay Thai bout after winning several TKD tournaments in both Sparring and Forms.

1994-1999 - Competed in over 70 fights not counting the multiple TKD tournaments that I had continued to compete in. A handful were PKA rules, fewer were Golden Gloves, but over 50 were under Muay Thai rules. Usually fighting back to back weekends.

1999 at 18 - After receiving my Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, I joined the US Army Infantry. I served 8 years with my first duty station being 2 years in Schweinfurt, Germany with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One).

I then PCS'd to Ft. Lewis, Washington to be a part of the 25th Infantry Division. I earned the rank of Sergeant in my year of being stationed here. I also re-enlisted after making Sergeant.

In my re-enlistment, I choose to be sent to the 101st Airborne Division as they were slated to be the first unit to go into Iraq for the invasion. I deployed twice to Iraq for a total of 25 months. I was awarded the Purple Heart during my second tour.

At every unit I continued my martial arts training. Usually with the company commanders permission to teach my fellow soldiers. I also would reach out to any instructors I could find in whatever area I was to continue my own development.

2007 at 26 - I received my Honorable Discharge and returned home after 8 years of service, with more than half that being outside the country.

2008 - I started training and fighting Muay Thai again under a fellow instructor from my youth, Jeremy Owen, who had opened a gym in my hometown of Chelsea, Oklahoma.

2008-2010 Under the "Team Strike" banner, I competed in 25 more fights, to which I won 2 World Titles and an Oklahoma State Title, before turning my sights to MMA. While I was in the Army the combatives system changed from Boxing to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So MMA had become a goal of mine.

2010 - After realizing I needed more training on the ground during my amateur MMA career, I started training Jiu Jitsu under Professor Christian Derr at Clinch Martial Arts Academy, a black belt under Master Jean Jacques Machado.

I also started training with an MMA gym called Team Impact around the same time. I very soon started teaching a Muay Thai class for the team. Eventually turning Team Impact into some respected strikers in the cage.

While continuing my own training at Clinch and now running not only a Muay Thai class at Impact since 2010, but I have also taught a Jiu Jitsu class there as well since 2013. I now have multiple champions that train under me in Muay Thai, BJJ & MMA.

2012 - COMBAT!! - I have started my own promotion as well. We have held MMA shows, and multiple full rules Muay Thai events.

2017 - Ma'at Sanctioning - I started my own sanctioning body for Amateur Muay Thai in Oklahoma. The state does not regulate amateur kickboxing here. After many years in the sport, I applied and received permission from the state commission to regulate shows on my own.

2018 - Became an Assistant Instructor at Clinch Martial Arts Academy under Professor Derr teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at my home Academy along with running my program at Team Impact. November 18th I was promoted to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Derr.

2019 - Strike Martial Arts Academy is born. Continuing the journey with my wife, Esther, we decided to open our own academy.

I have current Professional MMA record of 5-0, 4 Submissions and 1 KO.

I'm also 3-0 as a Professional Kickboxer (there is no professional Muay Thai in Oklahoma) with 2 KO. The only person I wasn't able to stop was the Champion who's title I took in my second Pro Kickboxing match.
